Developed by Microsoft, this free software allows you to open and print Excel files in XLS or XLSX format generated with all versions up to Office 2010.
The current version of Excel Viewer 2010 – also called Excel Viewer – is 12.0.6219.1000. Initially launched with Microsoft Office Excel 2003, it was then updated with Excel 2007, then with Excel 2010, and can therefore open files corresponding to these versions. Full opening of Excel files from newer versions is however not guaranteed. Indeed, the Excel viewer was decommissioned in April 2018. Since that date, the viewer is no longer developed and no longer receives security updates. Although the file can be downloaded from our page, Microsoft has stopped distributing it officially on its own site and instead recommends using the online version of Excel (accessible for free with a Microsoft account) or the Excel application on smartphones.
Originally, the Excel Viewer software – or Excel viewer – made it possible to open Excel workbooks without the Office suite being installed on the system. Its use is no longer necessary on modern versions of Windows.
Excel Viewer is a viewer for viewing or printing Excel workbooks. It is especially useful when Excel is not previously installed on the computer. Of course, if the file in question is in Windows Live Skydrive, it is not necessary to have this viewer. Besides workbook view, Excel Viewer can also be used as a tool to copy data from files to another program. However, it is important to note that the software does not allow modifying the data, nor saving or creating a new workbook. This is a simple viewer. As it is a viewer, Excel Viewer is easy to use. What is interesting is that it supports all versions of Excel namely Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft Office Excel 2003, Microsoft Excel 2002, Microsoft Excel 97. Moreover, it is easy to install.
Excel Viewer is only available as a 32-bit application Note: Excel Viewer is only available as a 32-bit application. The 32-bit version of Excel Viewer can be used on 64-bit versions of Windows.
